Advantages: 1. Multi-format. Scanning of 60 mm films is possible. 2. Quite good software for correcting defects. 3. Availability of licensed software included (Adobe Fine Reader, Photoshop Elements, etc.). In particular, there is a software for scanning documents larger than A4 format, followed by "stitching" (I haven't tested it at the moment, I don't know how good or bad it is).
Disadvantages: 1. Inconvenient fixation of 35 mm films. If the film is "rolled" (and most often it is), then it will not be fixed in the holder. 2. Native software quite clumsily recognizes frame boundaries. This is especially true for framed slides and 60mm film. On the other hand, there is always the possibility of manual cropping, so this feature is a disadvantage only for those who are going to scan in an automatic machine. 3. Framed slides are very difficult to remove from the retainer, even with nails present. And in their absence, it is simply impossible. 4. 35mm film must be cut in 6 frames or less. 60mm can be shoved in with a protruding tail. But all the same, you will have to cut at least in half. 5. Unable to scan framed 60mm slides. (Nagging. This type of frames is still with glass, so in any case it is better to remove the film.) 6. After several months, one annoying lack of software came to light. The point is that you cannot save the settings for the tonal curves and apply them to several frames taken in the same conditions and requiring color correction. As a result, the frames taken under the same conditions after scanning and correction are somewhat different.
Comment: As already noted (not only for this model), the bundled software copes well with defects, and not only with scratches, but also with salt stains on 35 mm films. For some reason, such spots did not form on 60 mm films in principle. It can be seen that the manufacturing technology is very different. Therefore, the scans taken from 60mm negatives and slides are pleasing in quality. Well, 35-mm is consumer goods and is consumer goods. The processing time for each scan can take quite a long time (up to 15-20 minutes), if you enable all the options - grain reduction, sharpening (it works, it really works!), Defects elimination. But where should we hurry, because there is eternity ahead! :) After several months: if you do not enable the "Color Restoration" option (it often works very crookedly), but manually adjust the tonal curves, then the frame processing time is approximately halved even with Digital ICE enabled! In terms of performance, the device, of course, does not even come close to being a semi-professional one. Well, why demand that kind of money? In general, if you have a large archive of photographic films, enough time, patience, direct hands and experience with photo editors, this is a good choice.

Advantages: Everything that is written about medell on the epson website and in the reviews is surprisingly, but true.
Disadvantages: in professional mode with the automatic color recovery function on, sometimes this correction is too strong - on the contrary, the colors are distorted
Comment: Purchased mainly for scanning old 35mm films. In prof. mode, the "DIGITAL ICE" function perfectly removes dust and scratches - greatly facilitates the post. processing. Of course, if the negative is significantly damaged, in the future you cannot do without corrections in the editors, but in general, the automation works very well. I was pleased with the presence of the POTOSHOP ELEMENTS program in the package - a "cut-down" Photoshop for dummies, but in general, for correcting not highly artistic shots from the family archive - an excellent program, with a sufficient number of tools. To everyone who has a desire to digitize old photo archives and shoebox films and more, I highly recommend it!

Advantages: Extremely high scanning speed even at 4800dpi. Quickly ready to scan, you don't have to wait long to warm up.
Disadvantages: Scanned materials are blurred. At first I thought it was due to the fact that the film was somewhat curled, but when I switched to scanning the already printed photographs, it turned out that the soap hadn't gone anywhere. If you enable sharpening when scanning in the settings, it turns out fine. But this is already preliminary processing of the material. It seems that when this option is turned off, the program specifically spoils the image, so that later it can boast of how it can improve clarity. Film scan frames are awful. Snacks are constantly popping up from the attachment points on the frames. Epson Scan always turns on automatic correction modes. Turn them off, but as soon as you slightly change the size of the scanning area, the automatic correction mode is turned on again. Most often it does not find the borders of photos and selects some separate parts of the photos with a frame. You have to edit with pens. The dust removal function works strangely. Along with the dust, the pupils, and sometimes the eyes, also disappear from the image. Sometimes it is completely inexplicable that some kind of daub appears, where everything was normal in the original. And this is in the minimum dust removal mode. It's scary to imagine what will happen in the maximum mode. You need to use it very carefully, with the obligatory control of the results. And, most importantly, there is no graphical editor included. Those. there is no more Photoshop Elements, about which they write here.
Comment: Since this is my first scanner, it is really difficult for me to write about the advantages, since there was nothing to compare with. But the shortcomings are visible immediately and without any comparison.

Advantages: High-quality assembly (flimsy film holder does not count). Perfectly scans color negatives (for which it was bought), technology. Good software included. Digital ice technology is worth its money, although the scanning time increases, but the result is excellent - 99% of scratches, streaks and hairs are removed from the negative, the main image is not distorted!
Disadvantages: If only the dimensions, but when you buy, you know what you are taking.
Comment: If you are choosing between Canon and Epson, then this model is better suited for scanning old photos and negatives. Thanks. Digital ice makes the recovery process really easy!

Advantages: Fast (if you do not enable infrared mode). The permission is much larger than you might actually need. Removal of dust and scratches (scanning in infrared mode). Automatic photo correction modes help a lot (not as high quality as manually, but they save time when scanning a large archive). Photoshop Elements included (not the most recent).
Disadvantages: Very weak software, did not expect this from Epson. Background correction never worked. Can't find borders of multiple photos automatically. Cannot align a crooked photo (when there are several of them, this is critical). It is very inconvenient to attach the film in the holder. It is not very convenient to pull out the slides within the frames. The settings are disgusting (if there are several photos, then it is better to first change them, and then start highlighting areas from the photo). Win 7 software crashed many times. There is software for Linux, but only for primitive scanning. Fine Reader comes with a very old one, incl. no good from him.
Comment: I bought for scanning old slides, films and photographs. Digital ICE often helps, but also adds artifacts (without this function, scanning is much faster). Periodically, the Digital ICE is not noticeable at all on old photos. Delivered from the USA in 2011. The shipping and purchase of a 220V power supply (I had to tinker) cost 10 thousand rubles. (a year later in Russia it was more expensive, not to mention the price after devaluation). In general, the device is very decent, although of course I would like to see the software better. Since I didn't really notice any sense from the infrared scanning mode, it's not a fact that I would have purchased such an expensive scanner for photos and slides again.
