Opinions from the Canon EF 100mm f / 2.8 Macro USM
Yandex.Market data
Advantages:
A minimum focusing distance of 15 cm from the front lens is optimal for shooting insects. Fixed glass, with all the consequences. Excellent sharpness and detail. Aperture ratio. The depth of field in macro photography is perfectly visible through the viewfinder.
Disadvantages:
The hard sharpness of this lens is poorly suited for portraits. Not universal, which is understandable. I would like a stabilizer. In 1: 1 macro mode, autofocus is quite useless, but at the same time turning it manually does not bother. When shooting macro, without a critical collision, the USM motor pleases, focuses quickly, but loves to drive focus, stopping at a more contrasting twig, and not the coveted beetle, throughout the range. I use the center focus point, which greatly speeds up the focusing process. In many shooting conditions, a macro flash is desirable, with an aperture of f2.8 the grip is extremely small, it is better to shoot from f5.6.
Comment:
For those who have never used such glasses, in the 1: 1 mode (the actual size of the object, it will be the same as on the camera's sensor), the depth of field is several millimeters and depends little on the aperture. When choosing a macro lens, remember that the longer the focal length, the harder it is to shoot handheld without shaking. The creativity is complete, not only small animals, but also some banal objects look original.

Advantages:
All the advantages are in the marking: - aperture ratio 2.8, quite worthy; - macro; - ultrasonic motor for autofocus drive; - fully internal focusing
Disadvantages:
if you find fault: - not very fast focusing, when you have to drive focus over the entire range, but this is a feature of the lens, not a drawback; - when used on younger models of DSLRs (350D-450D, 1000D), the glass outweighs :) it is better to shoot from a tripod, and for this you need a ring to attach to the tripod not by the carcass, but by the lens.
Comment:
I have long wanted a macro fixed lens, finally matured. Very satisfied. The picture is very clear, sharpness is at a level, everything is very convenient for macro photography, it is convenient to play DOF. In general, I am very satisfied, for those in doubt - take it, you will not regret it! For those who are not yet very familiar with the FR / picture ratio: from a height of growth (180 cm) on a crop camera (crop factor 1.5-1.6), about an A4 sheet falls into the frame. So portraits, still lifes, subject shooting, macro - he paints everything perfectly! Beautiful bokeh ...

Advantages:
Excellent image quality, beautiful bokeh. When shooting macro, you can shoot at a really close distance (about 15 cm to the lens). For comparison, you can get the human eye in the entire frame.
Disadvantages:
Sometimes it drives autofocus across the entire range, but I don't see anything particularly terrible in this.
Comment:
I bought it recently, but I'm very satisfied. Suitable for macro, and for portraits, and just as a telephoto lens.

Advantages:
Aperture, sharpness, speed, the ability to use various filters, great picture.
Disadvantages:
I'm afraid that there is nothing to find fault with.
Comment:
I myself got acquainted with the mirror, but I am incredibly pleased with the glass. If I wish, I get absolutely all my dreams))) Well, we can current except for landscapes, but it would be too bold. I use it both as a semi-portraitist and as a slightly telephoto lens, and of course we cannot replace it in macro. Bokeh, by the way, is capable of producing practical, ideally artistic. At first I was sad about the stub, but then I realized that you can't run after insects with a stub. At shutter speeds over 1/60, they will still be smeared with their restlessness. So ring flashes and daylight hours.))) I specially laid out a few photos on the page. I, of course, am not an example, but you can imagine the work of the lens in general terms.

Advantages:
Relatively not expensive. Well done. High-quality output.
Disadvantages:
Not elka :)
Comment:
If you don't have money for Canon EF 100mm f / 2.8L Macro IS USM and you really want to shoot macro - this is your choice! Very sharp! The grip is really very small and does not depend much on the aperture, for this reason, the shooting process must be approached wisely and focus better in Live View, while the camera should be (read necessarily) mounted on a tripod. The distortion is minimal, the bokeh is pleasant, the sharpness is excellent! What else is needed?! :) I will not write that it is good as a portrait lens, because I use other lenses for portraits, but for macro it is good! I recommend it for purchase.

Advantages:
Convenient, well-thought-out macro design. The focusing ring is very convenient. No protruding parts (no "trunk"), so that when focusing does not change the internal pressure of the lens and it does not work like a vacuum cleaner, sucking in a lot of dust. Fast, precise, quiet USM motor with manual focusing capability without switching off the motor, i.e. When shooting, you don't have to worry about damaging the AF motor and turn the focusing ring together with it. :) The colors of the lens are only slightly below the L level. Sharpness is practically enough for the resolution of a 15-megapixel sensor. I really like to photograph portraits in which the eyes, hair are drawn in very detail, and the skin and everything else can be "softened" in Photoshop. :)
Disadvantages:
On an open hole, when viewed "per pixel", we can see the soap (although I do not consider it critical).
Comment:
I used the lens all summer and fall of 2009. Then he sold it in the hope of replacing it with an L-ku, but since "the economy should be" (c), prices for it in Russia are still completely inadequate, and this state of affairs is unlikely to change in any way. Therefore, I get the same lens again: it is so good.

Advantages:
Excellent picture quality, fast focusing
Disadvantages:
Shallow depth of field
Comment:
Chosen as a macro lens for Canon 500D, that is, taking into account the crop factor, the focal length is 160 mm. For macro photography, maybe a bit too much. When shooting from a minimum distance, the depth of field is less than a millimeter, which makes it necessary to adapt, shooting somewhere from half a meter. Due to the lack of a stabilizer, one has to work at low shutter speeds, but when choosing a stabilizer, it was considered that the stabilizer was not worth 13,000 rubles (for amateurs). Otherwise, the lens pleases: the pictures are clear, bright. Autofocus works quickly, almost never misses (we shoot with focusing on the central zone). The background blur is excellent, the weight is not too annoying. In general, when you want high-quality pictures, we try to use this lens (not only for macro).
September 4, 2010
Advantages:
Accurate, fast, practically free of aberrations and vignetting, washes the background beautifully.
Disadvantages:
it's strange that they write something about this lens in this section :)
Comment:
I bought it a long time ago for a subject, used with 5D, now with 5D MIII. Accurate autofocus, I don't remember blurring, and this despite the fact that more often I focus on one central point. So that the focus does not "search the entire range", pay attention to the focus range switch, take a quick look at the instructions :) ... I did not have such problems. As a portrait photographer is good for children ... for adults - not always. There are not enough hares, but the hood will improve the picture. With the carcass, the 5D is balanced normally (by weight), it does not bother to use it from the hands, and on a tripod without a ring (someone wrote that there is not enough ring for the lens) it feels great.

Advantages:
I bought a used one and I'm very pleased - in some way macrik-ideal lenses, only rather narrowly sharpened, although this is how you look at it. Ideal geometry, no vignetting, super sharp, beautiful bokeh, fast focusing - what else is needed? ) It was interesting how he would behave at a concert in a reportage - it leads a very worthy-the backlight holds well without a hood, even if the projectors are shining directly into the lens, well, of course, it fades when they start playing with video light from the camera in the frame, but then any reportage elka would be sedated In general, in terms of price-quality ratio, this is probably the best lens that I have now, if shooting a subject pays for itself fantastically quickly ...

November 18, 2011
Advantages:
Beautiful picture, high-quality performance, good ratio of focal length and aperture.
Disadvantages:
Of course there is not enough stub, but it is worth it.
Comment:
If you want to shoot macro, but you don't have money for L-ku, then take it and do not hesitate, and I do not advise taking 50mm or 60mm for a crop, it is better to have more and it works here !!!
