Opinions from the Canon EF-S 55-250mm f / 4-5.6 IS STM
Yandex.Market data
Advantages:
Sharp for its price, even at the long end. STM - fast, even instantly, quiet, no buzzing, exactly, practically without misses. Color rendition immediately at the level, without Photoshop. Softness of pictures. 7 aperture blades - softer bokeh. Finally, there is something to blur the background, which is called "vhlam")), there was a hint of volume and artistry as on high-aperture lenses of the middle focal range. The front lens does not rotate - you can hang a polarizer, although it is practically not needed on a telephoto lens, except to shoot floating birds on the water without glare. Lightweight, compact
Disadvantages:
Not EF bayonet, sorry .. if there is a transition to FF it will be a pity to part with it. You can't break the diaphragm so that it doesn't depend on focal lengths and always has 4)) He doesn't like when it's dark, but that's why he is a state employee to be dark glass. Is it a plastic bayonet - so what? This does not affect the quality of the images, nor does it affect the "usability". The minimum focusing distance would be shorter ..
Comment:
It is not for nothing that in one bourgeois video review the chrome strip on the lens was made red and said: That's better! Indeed, that's better! Works tirelessly of lenses on the Canon 650D P.S. About 7 aperture blades - in one of the reviews it was said that there are more of them compared to the previous version, this is not the case, all generations 55-250 initially had 7 lozenges (so believe the reviews after that)))

Advantages:
Fast, quiet focusing, excellent image quality for the money. The stabilizer works very well. For budding photographers, the best choice among budget telephoto crop lenses. Aperture 4 - 5.6 working! Lightweight and small.
Disadvantages:
Perhaps in the future, dust will get into the lens due to the retractable trunk. No other shortcomings were identified :)
Comment:
Used with 7D M II. Auto focus hit 100% (center point). An excellent lens in all respects, just as good in video due to the stub and silent focus drive.

Advantages:
Relatively sharp at all focal lengths, at all apertures and across the entire frame. The drawing is kind of soft and plastic, but not soapy! STM - instant and absolutely silent focusing. Compact and lightweight for a telephoto lens, which, thanks to a normal stabilizer, is not a disadvantage, but on the contrary, becomes an advantage. Smooth rotation of the zoom ring, which is especially valuable when shooting video. Ability to adjust focus manually while autofocus is active. The focusing ring has a fairly large rotation angle. Relatively low price.
Disadvantages:
All the disadvantages that come to mind, with a sober approach, cease to be such: a plastic bayonet? So what? Do not chop nuts for them. No lens hood included? Personally, I bought an analog from jjc - it sits like a glove. Naturally, the price of a bundle is proportional to the number of items in that bundle. Dark - again, look at the price tag.
Comment:
Those who make money from photography will of course choose "L" for full frame. I recommend it to everyone else who needs a high-quality inexpensive telephoto.

Advantages:
PRICE QUALITY . Lightweight, simple and quite enjoyable lens. The quality in my opinion is excellent (after sigma 18-250) there are practically no misses. quietly and quickly focuses. the trunk does not fall out, is tightly assembled, but at the same time it is not tight. easy to handle. A good analogue to expensive glass. The stabilizer works fine.
Disadvantages:
has not yet revealed.
Comment:
I read about stm and decided to sell sigma and take canon 55-250 stm. I was surprised that my old camera is capable of shooting sooooo even well)) No mistakes, sharp, high-quality zoom. Ordered from china. came quickly. Very satisfied. For nature trips, attending concerts, taking pictures of birds is easy. Video without problems, focuses and no noise. Take replacements for old glass. you will not regret.

Advantages:
Build quality (despite the plastic), focus is fast and accurate, does not smear, as it was written in one review (check settings or others), silent STM engine, photos are sharp at all focal lengths, excellent bokeh, no complaints about HA, optics are not inferior to luxury lenses.
Disadvantages:
The plastic case and the bayonet cannot be called disadvantages, because they are of excellent quality.
Comment:
At first I planned to buy a Canon EF 70-300mm f / 4.0-5.6L IS USM, but when I watched a video of the 55-250 f / 4-5.6 IS STM test versus the luxury Canon EF 70-200mm f / 4.0L IS USM, doubts about the appropriateness of such costs. You can see for yourself by watching this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUPKbS8NbBQ In general, sometimes it makes sense to save money without losing quality. A cheap lens that rivals a luxury one.

Advantages:
Lightweight, quiet, fast focusing. The gimbal is excellent in all modes. Distortion is minimal over the entire operating range.
Disadvantages:
Plastic bayonet, not for frequent changes of optics - with high-speed replacements it will loosen after a hundred or two times. But at such a price, it is insignificant and if you do not rush, the thread will not work in two years. Water and dust resistance not like "L" -class.
Comment:
For example, a couple of handheld night shots, on a device with a crop matrix of 1.6, the same object with and without full zoom: (links to photos were not missed). Handheld video recording of moving objects is now easier than ever - autofocus instantly and silently works out manual zoom, and the gimbal compensates for slight shake. For comparison, watch a video with a comparative focusing test of two lenses "70-300 usm" & "55-250 stm": youtube.com/watch?v=pmrvBcXYcwU - obviously, who is faster and quieter at work. Summary - the lens is gorgeous in all respects for its price. Silent and accurate focusing compared to more expensive ones (personally compared with the original 28mm f / 2.8 IS USM for 28, which thunders "like a tractor"), as well as a clear picture at all ranges A at such a ridiculous price for zoom with autofocus and a stabilizer (01/18/2015) - make it out of competition among classmates.Only the "EF 600mm f / 4L IS II USM" is better than it, but it costs a hell of 666 rubles and weighs almost 4kg.

Advantages:
An excellent lens, not L, but almost L. Autofocus immediately to zero, without correction, the stabilizer works out its own. The assembly is of high quality, the trunk does not roll out.
Disadvantages:
A bit dark, but once again we look at the price tag :)
Comment:
The lens is magical, and even more so for your money! You can tell, straightens his arms. :)
April 17, 2015, Moscow
Advantages:
Instant and clear focusing, rich colors, many pictures are obtained as if three-dimensional. The build quality is excellent, nothing rattles, no backlash. Good quality of sharpness, sharpness is not crystal, of course, but for a telephoto lens the picture is very good. HA did not notice. When shooting video, the operation of the lens is not audible, not focusing, not changing the focal length.
Disadvantages:
It reddens a little, maybe only my copy, however, the flaw is not terrible, it can be easily corrected in Photoshop. Venting is present on the focal point 250 and nearby, you can ignore it or edit it in DPP which comes with Canon mirrors or fix it with Photoshop.
Comment:
I am very pleased with the purchase - the picture quality is generally excellent, the price is reasonable.
May 9, 2014, Moscow
Advantages:
STM is definitely a big plus! Focusing, firstly, is really almost silent (you can't hear it at all on the street, only in a quiet room), and secondly, it's unrealistically fast. The quality of the pictures is at a height, the aperture of 4.0 is quite enough to take portraits with beautiful blur. Moreover, a focal length of 55-250 allows you to make these portraits natural, when a person does not even know that he is being photographed!
Disadvantages:
If you need a lens for taking pictures of children in an apartment, this lens is not for you)) And I did not notice any shortcomings!
Comment:
I use it together with the budget canon 1100d carcass. The park has kit 18-55, pancake 40mm f2.8. This one was purchased for outdoor photography. It is quite suitable for reportage shooting. The built-in stub is a great thing! The quality of the photo in comparison with the kit is without comments at all, with the pancake - sharper photos, with more beautiful blur at open aperture. I am definitely satisfied with the purchase! Favorite lens for the street!

Advantages:
Clear photos. Excellent focal length. Light. CANON !!!
Disadvantages:
Obviously not for night shots.
Comment:
Overall, as an amateur lens, it's just super!
