Nikon D500 Body reviews
Yandex.Market data
Advantages:
1) Autonomy of work at height. On one battery charge, you can shoot more than 1200 frames at a leisurely pace. 2) Autofocus speed and accuracy !!! Usually when sorting a photo, some frames often end up in a "marriage" because they are out of focus. Immediately, the percentage of misses is so low that only a few get into the marriage (and as a rule, this is my jamb) 3) Ergonomics. Everything is convenient at hand. No need to go through the settings. Top display, tons of customizable buttons + quick menu = all functions are always at hand. 4) XQD card (it is also a minus). But this card is SHIKARNA! When you shoot with it, you just forget what a buffer is. For example, a bride is spinning in a dress, you do a serial shoot, and then you watch. did something successful in this series. The camera instantly saves everything and when you look at the frames, there are no sublugs. Moreover, it does not matter whether a series of 5 frames or 30. Everything flies to the card so quickly that you don't even have time to shoot. 5) Flip-up + touch screen. It's comfortable. In general, the screen is very solid. It is always clear whether the exposure is correct, whether it is in focus, what is obtained there by colors. And it is very convenient to shoot from the top-bottom point. It is a pity, of course, that the screen does not turn sideways, but I think it would greatly reduce the strength of the structure. 6) Camera body and dust and moisture protection. With such a camera, you can shoot in the rain and not sweat so that it gets wet. I saw people who are just afraid to get the camera even in the drizzling rain. Here I just scored and shoot in any weather! 7) 4K video. If you shoot in full HD, then an electronic video stabilizer is available, which by the way is not even bad at all. In fact, the camera has a huge amount of advantages. For example, I have never regretted that I chose her.
Disadvantages:
1) XQD card! This is a rare format for memory cards, and in general they are expensive. Logic, to use 2 types of memory cards (XQD and SD) is rather stupid. Since it is difficult to guess which cards to take how many. 2) The camera is very expensive for a crop. For the same money, you can buy a good FF. 3) Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are not really necessary. Applications for the camera are so crooked that they cannot be used. Is it something to indulge. 4) Video. It seems the quality of the video itself is good, but there is no picking focus and other necessary buns for video operators. As a result, filming video is simply inconvenient. 5) No flash. Yes, a dubious minus, but there are times when external flashes (monoblocks) need to be ignited with an impulse, but there is no such possibility in the camera. You always have to carry an external flash with you.
Comment:
Despite the shortcomings, I really like the camera. I already have quite a lot of experience with Nikon cameras. There was D3000, D300, D750, D4 and the D500 itself. Now I have 500 and 750 in my arsenal. But I still like the 500 much more. She is faster, more predictable. The D750 is still ff, a more creative camera. But in terms of speed and convenience, it is sharply behind the D500. In general, if you want a reliable camera, then take it. Will not let you down !!!

Advantages:
- speed; - weight; - autofocus; - absolutely working iso 6400; - a bunch of useful features in the camera settings and communication with it; - good color rendering (but I like it better on the D700); - the wildest dynamic range, with iso up to 800, you can draw out absolute blackness or severe overexposure. Yes, and after iso 800 dd is steadily better than the D700; - very comfortable to hold on to the camera; - keeps the battery well, including in the cold; - the most powerful buffer; - very good auto white balance; - several quiet modes, sometimes very helpful.
Disadvantages:
I did not find any shortcomings as such
Comment:
Excellent reportage camera. Quite narrowly directed, not everyone needs this, but those who know why he needs it will be happy.

Advantages:
- Focusing (phase) - the focusing module remains the best among Nikon cameras even in the first quarter of 1919 - Shooting speed (10 fps) - Buffer for 200 frames (when using an XQD card). With SD card about 70 - Controls. This is a separate topic. Firstly, there are more buttons on the D500 than on other "crop" models from Nikon. Here it stands on a par with the D850. Second, and most importantly, the camera supports substantial customization of the controls. The later model, the "little brother" of the camera, the D7500, does not have the ability to assign the selection of a specific AF area mode to a button. The D500 has such an option. That is, you can hold down one button and the camera will switch from AF point mode to, for example, "dynamic, 25 points" mode. Let go - and again "one point". I like this function VERY much. It is simply irreplaceable in shooting wild animals. Especially when shooting birds that can suddenly take off. I recall with horror the time when there was no such thing in my cell. I must say that this function (in my opinion) is artificially "not reported" in a carcass cheaper for marketing reasons. After all, this is a purely software solution that is already ready. Unfortunately. But I repeat - this is one of the most useful innovations regarding the "five thousandth" and "seven thousandth" series! You can conveniently configure the buttons for one-handed use. When a super-telephoto is attached to the carcass, it comes in very handy - Joystick for selecting AF points - The viewfinder is bright and full of coverage - Rotary touch screen. Even though I forget that it is touch-sensitive, I sometimes use it - It fits well in the hand - Moisture and dust protection. A very useful property when, behind a good shot, you literally have to crawl through wet grass and dry steppes.
Disadvantages:
- Focusing in Live View does not differ much from Nikon amateur cameras - Inconvenient cable connector (remote control). It is difficult to connect quickly, but for that there is a screwing "nut"
Comment:
My experience is limited to wildlife photography in a hiking style. This is one of the niches for the camera. If you are shooting animals or sports, the camera should suit you 100%. Of course, if you don't need a fullframe. I have never regretted that I took the D500 and not the D7200 or D7500. In terms of technical characteristics, it surpasses all junior models. And the cherry on top is the customization of the controls, which I mentioned earlier. Yes, a gourmet item, but I really liked it.
March 15, 2019, Rostov-on-Don
Advantages:
Auto white balance impressed with accuracy, flip-up touch screen, autofocus speed, in comparison with the D300s it became a little easier and more convenient to adjust. Added spot metering for bright areas (performing artist in the world, for example). It helps a lot when shooting in a bar, when a person is illuminated by spot lighting ... I haven't finished reading the ABC book yet ... The body has become larger - more grasping ...
Disadvantages:
the feeling that the D300s was made of a harder plastic ... or maybe it seems ...
Comment:
The choice was between D500 and D810 ... I read a lot and I became confident that the dynamic range is not worse than that of the D810. I have not seen other advantages of the existing full-frame cameras. I didn't want to wait for the D810 update. Depth of field, more than, paired with Sigma AF 50-150mm f / 2.8 APO EX DC OS HSM. I wanted to leave the D300s as the second camera, but when I started comparing the D500 I didn't want to let it go ... the speed and accuracy of autofocus are higher, the white balance on the machine works, unlike the D300s, the shutter sound is quieter and more pleasant to hear ... about the purchase, but I was very happy that I took it.
20 April 2017
Advantages:
Operation speed, ease of control, case ergonomics, touch screen, button illumination. Focusing is lightning fast. I have rather large hands and small cameras such as the D7100 bkb D610 are extremely inconvenient for me.
Disadvantages:
Snapbridge app issues. If you do not turn off WI FI or Bluetooth, it will quickly drain the battery. XQD cards cost like a good used DSLR. The choice of slots would be better as on D5. I do not know what the catch is, but the connection with the "xiaomi redmi not 3 pro" smartphone is constantly cut off. At the stage of acquaintance, everything was fine, the pictures were transferred to the smartphone via WI FI and bluetooth, but after a while they stopped connecting via WI FI, neither the camera control, nor the transfer of pictures ... I transfer pictures to the smartphone via bluetooth 2MP ...
Comment:
Before that, I shot with D80 for 8 years, collected a park of FF lenses and planned to switch to full frame. But Nikon could not offer an adequate FF. either a bunch of megapixels or a weak AF. Or an amateur device with a large matrix ... And then the D500 suddenly came out, I didn't expect it and didn't follow the news on this market. Autofocus, rotating screen, rate of fire, moisture protection ... Portrait photography is not the main indicator, but the focus on sports and photography of wild animals has become a decisive factor.
24 August 2018, Penza
Advantages:
The battery was discharged at the end of the wedding day. Maybe, if you save money, then it would be enough for the whole day. Colors. From color delighted. Sometimes you don't even want to touch the sources. The colors are very pleasant and warm. There is also a dynamic range ... Autofocus ... In general, in every detail of the camera, in every function, you can see the maximum quality at the present time. - This is a TOP crop, it has the best technologies, but there is one BUT.
Disadvantages:
It's KROP! And all the ensuing ... Do not expect miracles. You can't argue with physics!
Comment:
The camera costs several times more than my d3200, which I owned for about 7 years, and after 7 years the crop remained a crop. The detail of the d500 with the smallest lack of illumination is no higher than that of the d3200, the d500 is noisy as well. The noise reduction tollo has improved, but the detail has not increased from this, but on the contrary. Shumadav, of course, removes color noise, but too much and the photos become blurry. In general, the detail of the d500 is even slightly lower (completely) than that of the d3200, but the latter still has more pixels. Of course, I didn't expect that there would be no gain. Now I sold the camera, bought myself a d700 and a lens. The difference with a full frame is heaven and earth ... But the d700 is already old, those colors are no longer there ... Do not overestimate the d500 in autofocus either. It is certainly top, but still it used to "search" with a lack of lighting, on low-contrast objects. There is progress here, but not a miracle. The same d700 is worse in autofocus, but not much. In general, if you are a regular photographer, don't buy! The same d750 will give a better picture and a more beautiful blur of the background ... I write so that people do not make mistakes like me. My d700 now pleases me much more for my purposes: wedding photography, love story, family, children's ... Full frame gives a completely different picture.

Advantages:
The D500 is the professional flagship of DX format cropped DSLRs. Low-noise multi-pixel matrix, excellent stretches, the CZK has the entire spectrum like full-frames. 4K video recording. Long life battery, solid magnesium alloy housing.
Comment:
He still has no competitors in the DX format, so for how many years he has been alone without replacement. I am glad that the price is falling)).

Advantages:
- focusing, focusing points cover almost the entire area of the frame, it is very convenient to control the area or focusing point, 153 AF points; - ergonomics, all settings can be controlled without going into the menu (this is a professional camera, as it should be); - the monitor is rotatable, the picture shows a clear juicy, it seems this is the best screen on a Nikon camera that I have used; - the viewfinder has a 1.0x magnification, it's just super, it's a pleasure to watch; - weather protection; - the ability to focus almost in the dark; - accurate white balance; - shooting speed 10 frames per second; - large buffer; - availability of Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth; - video shooting is perhaps the highest quality of all Nikon cameras, you can shoot in 4K format, flexible settings for the resulting material in terms of saturation and contrast, you can get a large DD for subsequent processing or write uncompressed video to the recorder via HDMI; - audio input, audio output, HDMI output
Disadvantages:
did not find it.
Comment:
This camera is a great tool for a wide range of photo and video tasks too. And above all, this is a professional camera and it is worth buying it for professional activities.
