Opinions from the Nikon D850 Body
Yandex.Market data
Advantages:
Highest image quality - picture color and picture volume. Focus speed. Low noise at high ISO with fast shutter speed. General speed of work. More comfortable grip than D800-D810
Disadvantages:
Everything related to PictureBridge and wireless functions is extremely inconvenient to use, in fact all wireless functions turn into a toy due to the poor implementation of the software not in the camera, but on the phone. Inability to remotely configure the camera from the phone. The biggest drawback is that all the focus points are grouped in the center of the frame, which feels worse than the D800. Unreasonably expensive XQD memory cards and battery pack. The battery consumption is not displayed accurately and informatively enough.
Comment:
I am writing a review after a day of owning the camera, for this reason, I will add it as I gain experience with the camera. Image quality is excellent. The picture is voluminous, colors are good, in LightRoom NEF it stretches very well in shadows and highlights. Detailing as in the first bladeruner, in the eyes with a magnification, the reflection of the room can be seen. There is volume and character in the image, it seems that the images from the D850 will be recognizable. ISO is the brightest impression. Compared to the D800, the camera is much less noisy. 6400 is working ISO without any exaggeration, at 25600 the picture looks almost like on the D800 at 6400, and details are not lost. With colors at 25600, everything is bad. Excellent auto ISO settings in the menu. Focusing is very fast and tenacious. Much better than the D800. Great job in the dark. It focuses very well in the forest when shooting birds, when the noise in the form of branches is in focus. There are many focus tracking settings in the menu, and they really help. Of the features - what is written everywhere about 153 focus points - this is marketing, in reality only 55 are available for selection. Lifeview - works very smartly, subjectively, focusing is the same or a little faster than on Olympus. Of the little things, I was surprised that even in normal mode, the camera works very quietly, the mirror and shutter move very smoothly and the camera shakes much less. It is unusual that in the viewfinder all information labels are now white, this is less contrasting, and in 17 years I have already got used to green. The viewfinder itself appears to be a bit larger compared to the D800. Burst shooting is very good - the buffer is large and the camera works fine even with old memory cards, but the files weigh 60-70MB and you have to be prepared to spend both on hard drives and memory cards. In my opinion, SD is enough for photographing at 7 fps, how it will be at 9 fps is not clear. As a summary - an excellent camera, in comparison with the D800-D810, almost everything is better, there are many little things that make a good impression.

Advantages:
1) Ergonomics. Whoever says what, but despite the fact that it is heavier than d7000, it lies in the hand very nicely and the weight is not noticeable. 2) There is no round lamp for additional AF illumination, now there is a red "laser" (bugaga) 3) Flip-up screen, which was sometimes lacking 4) The shutter is quite quiet, and in comparison with d4s, so in general the baby's puffing 5) There is a silent release function and this it helps a lot to "remain invisible" during reporting. One friend of mine was very surprised, expecting a "chik-chik", which never happened 6) Life is very smart and, most importantly, accurate. Previously, it was difficult to shoot through it, but now the "silent shutter - life" bundle is a favorite thing, it's a thrill, it's become too lazy to look at the viewfinder 7) The ISO button is now on the right side, like in the d500, in front of the auxiliary screen, that is, all the main controls settings are now on one side and can be adjusted in fractions of a second with the right hand (aperture, shutter speed, ISO) 8) White balance is very accurate on auto, even with mixed terrible light 9) High working ISO - I shot a report several times at a value of 8000-10000 , customers were satisfied 10) 7 fps shutter speed - not much, but not too little. Golden mean. Moreover, with a battery pack, you can achieve 9 fps 11) The battery is enough for an average reportage, it works out for the entire number of declared frames (if you do not use the screen) 13) Large viewfinder, due to the fact that there is no built-in flash 14) Initially pleasant skin tone without unnecessary manipulation in editors
Disadvantages:
1) I will not write about the battery pack like others - for me it is a toy. To d7000 is - not hooked. Therefore, I began to buy on d850. It's easier to get a spare battery out of the bag 2) The files weigh a lot, especially at the maximum expansion. Therefore, there are memory cards with a great appetite, you especially notice this when you shoot sports on a burst shooting 3) XQD cards are much more expensive than SD and other types of cards, but their write speed is much higher. The buffer really seems bottomless. But smart SD cards will also work well with it and will not distract from work 4) When working through the screen, all cameras run out of battery much faster, so it's not surprising 5) It's a matter of habit, but still - in the menu, to approve the settings you need press "OK", which is somewhat unusual for me personally (you flip with the joystick, turn to the central TYK button, but no, you need to press "OK") 6) (joke) There is no built-in flash. I loved to play with her :( (open-close)
Comment:
Neither plus nor minus: Lightroom and Photoshop need to be updated to the latest versions, since earlier versions will not see RAW. Bottom line: great camera with great capabilities.
March 10, 2018, Rostov-on-Don
Advantages:
Solid advantage, except for the disadvantages described below.
Disadvantages:
Heavy When working through the screen, the battery runs out very quickly. When working with Wi-fi, the battery runs out even faster. There are many customizable buttons, but the functionality that can be configured on them is very limited ... The main problem with ergonomics seemed to me to be the following: - Nikon, you have made a perfectly working joystick, but why then send the crosspiece with completely duplicating joystick functionality? At the same time, they did not give the opportunity to reconfigure the cross for other functions. - Why can't I set the focus point reset function to center when I press the joystick? - Also another question to ergonomics, for example, we work through a screen with picking and manual focusing, why is it not possible to adjust the Zoom under the thumb of the right hand? (The left one is occupied by the focus ring)

Advantages:
Moved from D800 to this camera. I remember it very well from the advertisement and the anniversary issue. Added: Button illumination The picture is not much sharper ISO is twice as high Video writes at 60fps Annual subscription as a gift to Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom The batteries came from an old camera. Now there are 7 of them: D
Disadvantages:
For me they are not. Just as it was not in the D800, which was sinned everywhere that it had a lot of greases, etc. I didn't have that either. The screen is certainly too beautiful. You will see reality on the computer. You shouldn't overestimate your skills. But you can boast by showing the frame during shooting.
Comment:
For me, this is a modified D800 in the details. JPG 24 megapixels for reportage, for studio only full .NEF. Thank you Nikon!
August 17, 2018, Khanty-Mansiysk
Advantages:
45.7 megapixels, autofocus works great in dark conditions, soft shutter.
Disadvantages:
Expensive extra battery pack and other accessories.
Comment:
I bought Nikon D4 instead. I wanted to get closer in detail to medium format cameras, which the D4 did not allow. I liked the autofocus very much. Works great in dark conditions, no need to wait and catch contrasting details. The shutter is much smoother and quieter; vibration is hardly felt relative to the D4. In addition, I bought a battery pack for it, which came with Nikon D4 batteries, so the transition to a new camera was almost painless. The only thing is that you will have to buy SD cards and buy high-speed ones. I used Compact Flash cards for Nikon D4, because XQD cards are not really expensive ... I recorded a video of unpacking the D850 and a small comparison with Nikon D4 https://youtu.be/_gvjLkehDA8 After half a year of operation https://youtu.be/_N3LXVhFdvI
2 August 2018, Moscow
Advantages:
Their mass 1.For me, the most important thing is white balance and the camera copes with it with a bang, even with mixed light 2. High working iso 3. More comfortable grip 4. Fast and tenacious autofocus, even in the dark 5.The colors of the screen are very close to what you see later on a monitor with an ips matrix 6. Silent operation of the shutter 7. The battery holds twice the charge of the D800 8. Continuous shooting speed
Disadvantages:
These are more likely not disadvantages, but additional costs: The cost of the battery pack The cost of xqd memory cards and the difficulty of purchasing them due to the absence in most stores
Comment:
For a little less than a month, I am the happy owner of this magnificent carcass. There is a D700, D800, there was also an opportunity to try the D610, D750, D3s, D4s in operation, there is something to compare with I can say one thing, Nikon has collected the best in this model. D850 is worth its money, as it makes life easier for its owner
1 February 2018, Zheleznogorsk
Advantages:
1) Versatility. Suitable for almost any genre of prof. shooting. Thanks to focusing speed, continuous shooting speed (especially with optional battery pack), buffer size and high resolution (large format printing, crop margin). 2) Convenient grip and location of controls (you can reach all buttons and levers without removing your finger from the shutter button). When shooting quickly, this is an important aspect. Again, unlike the D750, the 850 has conveniently located reprogrammable Pv and Fn buttons on the front side next to the mount (on the D750 it is very inconvenient to reach them blindly, they are too far apart from each other). A pleasant trifle in terms of ergonomics, the illumination of the buttons and the dial with settings (sometimes it was not enough on the D750 when shooting in the dark). 3) Large and bright viewfinder An important advantage of the D850 is the large scattering of focusing points across the entire field of the frame, in 750 they are all bunched up closer to the center. 4) A very useful and long-awaited (not only by me) mode of completely silent shooting (it finally reached DSLRs)). All the so-called "silent shooting modes" before that were just an imitation of such. 5) For lovers of manual lenses and those who simply shoot in manual focusing mode, there is also a long-awaited gift in the form of peak focus (highlighting the contours of the sharpness zone in the hovering mode on the display), a very convenient thing that has long been tested on mirrorless system cameras and only now has arrived with such a huge delay to DSLRs. 6) Sufficiently nimble general operation of the camera (navigation, quick viewing of images). Everything happens without visible delays, provided that high-speed memory cards are used (the required minimum for this is a SanDisk extreme pro SD card or other similar memory card with a WRITE speed of at least 90 MB / s).
Disadvantages:
1) Dimensions (the weight is to a lesser extent, it is not so much larger than that of similar new full-frame DSLRs, but the size is the largest in this class of modern models. In this regard, Nikon has changed places with its main competitor brand. you get used to it, after 1 day of operation it no longer seems gigantic, and the comfortable deep grip of the handle compensates for this nuance 2) I expected to see a big difference with the same D750 in noise at high ISO values. In practice, I did not see this (compared to 6400 ISO values at least with the D750). The only thing I can say, again, in fairness, is that the structure of the noise is quite fine-grained and not a strong degradation of color with an increase in sensitivity to the indicated values is observed, unlike some other models. 3) A very strange and inconvenient algorithm for working in auto iso mode (I think this glitch will be eliminated with a new firmware). 4) Very slow focusing mode in aiming mode on the display. As was this mode for shooting stationary objects on the D750, it remained on the D850, and it's a pity that the main competitor with this parameter in the new SLR cameras is doing much better.5) To the relative disadvantages, I can also include the need to upgrade everything you have with the purchase of this camera, starting with the acquisition of the highest-speed memory cards, and ending with new hardware (computer upgrade). 6) I was also somewhat disappointed by the low contrast of the image and a certain pallor of color reproduction, although I set the mode in the Picture control SD (I shot in a jeep). 7) I was also not pleased with the picture from the 70-200 2.8 VR of the first version, which is my favorite lens in conjunction with the Nikon D750 (there photos from it rarely need to be corrected. Everything turns out to be very bright, voluminous and beautiful. it’s dull and sometimes not sharp enough. Although there is no backing, front focus (I checked it carefully). But apparently you need to upgrade the optics and switch to newer (and more expensive) versions.
