Opinions from the ASUS RT-AC88U
Yandex.Market data
Advantages:
1) 8 Lan ports 2) double wan For me this was the minimum set, but with such a set there are no competitors.
Disadvantages:
1) and the MAIN DISADVANTAGE !!! : This is hardware revision A3, judging by the information I found, in more than 50% of cases, routers of this revision fail in the first week, and specifically wifi 5 gigahertz fails. 2) CPU temperature reaches 86 degrees
Comment:
I have Asus RT-AC88U hardware revision of A5 works for half a year without any complaints. Yesterday I bought another one but with hardware revision A3, worked for one hour, after which wifi 5 gigahertz disappeared and problems began with the web interface in terms of setting up wifi. ps when you buy, pay attention to the hardware version, do not take A3, there are no complaints about other versions of such a shaft. The hardware version is indicated on the box nameplate in the line above the line with the firmware number.

Advantages:
Nimble. Now I dream of> 100 Mbps from the provider ...
Disadvantages:
Firmware curves. WTFast is absolutely useless: it works with a small number of games, I didn't notice any difference on CS: GO. It would be more useful to have a smart VPN thread to the states of Europe, without a limit and stupid locks :)
Comment:
Updating the firmware does not kill 5GHz. It turned out that the old firmware set channel 140 by default (132, 136, 140 - they work fine, but with width restrictions), the new ones - use channel 100 by default - all my devices do not see it (phone, xbox one - so the same as all channels in the range 100-116). Manual installation - helps until you turn on Smart Connect (there is only Auto - 100 channel: D). The new firmware does not have channels 116 and higher at all. I had to figure it out myself, the support is dumb. USB3.0 does not always start correctly (sprinkles with I / O errors). But now, more or less, 40mb / s received by samba (versus ~ 30mb / s by usb2.0 on it, encrypted VE400 from hitachi 1tb). Torrento-rocking (Download Master) uses all 100 Mb / s confidently. The New Download Master (PC client) is crooked and not working. The range of 5 GHz is doubtful (IMHO, the N66U punched a little further). Keep in mind that the 8 LAN ports are not entirely fair. Ports 5-8 will have a total gigabit limit when communicating with other devices on WAN / 1-4. Just worth keeping in mind when planning.

Advantages:
1. Design! 2. Easy setup, intuitive interface. 3. Support for MU-MIMO. 4. USB 3.0. 5. Stable work in 2 ranges. 6. Coverage area.
Disadvantages:
Dollar rate!
Comment:
The home network is now based on RT-AC88U - 2 laptops, 4 smartphones and 2 TVs. Everything works without interruptions, the coverage area is a house and a standard plot of 6 acres, and this is on the stock firmware without any dancing with a tambourine with regional restrictions on signal strength. I didn't have to install the firmware from hggomes, as with the previous router (it could of course be a glitch of a specific instance), everything worked as it is, well, the firmware was updated to a more recent one. As before, I connected a hard drive to the USB 3.0 port, on which I mainly download cartoons for children, which they can watch from any of the two TVs and of course laptops. You can also connect a modem from a cellular operator, there is just a free USB port, as well as 8 Gigabit ports that I still do not use, but there are already ideas to use them in a video surveillance system. The price is certainly not the best side of the device, but what else can you expect with such a dollar rate. The rest of the router is super.

Advantages:
There are many gigabit ports, ping has dropped noticeably and the speed does not slow down with a large number of connected devices, 5 GHz works perfectly in a three-room apartment, you can create an additional guest wi-fi with controlled traffic, software on the phone, usb 2 b usb 3, DNLA, FTP even through wan, open mouths of acquaintances ... and, by the way, two wan! or wan + reserve for usb modem.
Disadvantages:
IOS software with clumsy translation and some bugs. Price as for a budget laptop.
Comment:
Maybe someone will help ... if you connect a hard drive via usb 3, then be sure to disable "Reducing USB 3.0 interference" in the router settings, otherwise you will suffer for a long time, spit and swear

Advantages:
A solution that may seem redundant for home use, but at home it is so wired that this is exactly what is required (8 LAN ports plus wifi). A very sprawling device, a strong signal and a lot of customization out of the box, including, for example, guest networks.
Disadvantages:
Not that it's a drawback, but it's definitely not cheap, and if you don't need 8 ports and a killer wifi signal, the market is full of simpler solutions.

Advantages:
1) Quality of materials 2) Very convenient, simple and extensive system for setting up the device 3) Confident signal through several walls 4) Design 5) You can use Wi-Fi at 2 frequencies at the same time 6) Simplicity and speed of firmware updates 7) Stable work with several devices
Disadvantages:
Not yet discovered
Comment:
I advise everyone who wants to get a high-quality router at a reasonable price and forget about problems both with the router itself and with the Internet. P.S. the work was evaluated using 200 Mbps via a GPON receiver

Advantages:
Speed, design, ease of installation and administration
Disadvantages:
price ... and see comments
Comment:
The sole purpose of this review is to warn future owners of this router - do not update the firmware (microcode) under any circumstances !!! Mine came with version 3.0.0.4_380_858, everything worked right away (including 2.4 and 5G). The recommendations from the user manual followed and updated the microcode to version 380_2345 ... After the update, 5G disappeared ... At first I decided that something burned out ...but long searches in the ASUS forums helped - I found in the discussion of a completely different router that the firmware update kills exactly 5G ... Fortunately, the ASUS support site also contains version 380_858, and (fortunately again) it can be installed instead of a newer one .. Then, magically 5G returned to where it was supposed to be ...

Advantages:
Number of network ports Good interface
Disadvantages:
Takes up a lot of space Warms up well under load
Comment:
I took it to connect all devices via ethernet. The cable hangs on it: PC, PS4, NAS, laptop, media player, TV, interactive TV set-top box. There are 2 smartphones and a tablet on Wi-Fi. Sometimes I change channels. other residents of the house turn on their devices. A standard two-room apartment is confidently covered with a signal.

Advantages:
Handsome and powerful. After the old asus wl-520gu, it's just perfect. the signal is stable. And nothing freezes.
Disadvantages:
the price, of course, is too big.
Comment:
It has been working for a year and a half. It is heated, of course, but there are no problems from this. P.S. More than two years have passed. It works stably.

Advantages:
Strong, stable signal, beautiful design, wide coverage
Disadvantages:
WTfast supports few games. When connecting a USB modem from the back of the router, the antenna gets in the way
Comment:
I liked this purchase very much. Setting up a router is very simple, everyone can figure it out. Excellent transfer speed and stable ping in the game thanks to Game Acceletator, I did not observe any drawdowns during the games. Beautiful design reminiscent of a spacecraft, the size is impressive compared to what was before that Zyxel Keenetik. The indoor coverage area is surprising, I live in a country house of 400 sq.m. the wi-fi network is distributed throughout the house. Different devices are connected to the router, all have a good signal level and download transmission. I connected IP cameras and now at any time and in any place I can observe what is happening around the site. Play Station 4 interacts well with the router, I noticed that ping dropped in PSN games. You can also download the application for controlling the router through the phone and control it using it.
