Opinions from the TP-LINK TL-MR3020

I bought a 4g modem from Megafon M100-3 for 901 rubles. with a sim card and a month of Internet 32 giga. I wanted Highway 392 in Moscow in bulk, but in Chelyabinsk there were only M100-3 in March 2014. He's ZTE MF823. I liked the modem, it works normally and stably in a netbook on Windows7. There are 2 sockets for 3 g and 4 g antennas in case of poor reception. But the modem worked surprisingly well even in a concrete room - 6-7 mb for reception and 1-3 mb for reception without antennas. There was an idea to cross this modem with a TP-LINK TL-MR3020 router - I liked the design and the low price (849 rubles) and distribute the Internet over the air. It turned out, unfortunately, that the modem in the router did not work - it was detected as an unidentified modem .. 2 pm I studied the Internet. First I read that the modem is not in the list of supported ones: http: //www.tp-linkru.com/support/3g-comp- list /? model = TL-MR3020. Upset .. What helped: I decided to update the firmware on the router to clear my conscience. Was: v1 3.14.2 Build 120817 Rel.55520n, and updated to TL-MR3020_V1_130507_RU from 05/07/2013. Ok! the modem was determined and worked in the router-URA! The Internet distributes. The speeds are good. Moreover, if the modem in the router did not start (the diode does not blink), put the modem in the computer. back and in the browser type the address for the modem: http://192.168.0.1/goform/goform_set_cmd_process?goformId=SET_CONNECTION_MODE&ConnectionMode=auto_dial. This command will set the modem to autostart, then take the modem out of the computer and insert it into the router. Everything works! I'm glad if I helped someone ..

Advantages:
... 1) External switch of the 3G WISP AP operating mode, you do not have to go into the router settings every time you change the operating mode. 2) Wi-Fi has five modes of operation! In addition to standard AP, Repeater, Bridge, there is WISP (not to be confused with WPS!) And Client AP. In particular, Client AP will help to save money on buying miniPCI, USB adapter for laptop or PC. The Repeater mode is not quite appropriate in this model ... the antenna is weak, for such purposes it is necessary to take an AP with a replaceable antenna, with a power starting from 7db. But the WISP mode will allow your home LAN network, for example, to "stick" to free Wi-Fi in an Internet cafe with a whole crowd! (-: 3) WAN or 3G channel reservation, optional. Alternatively, you can select WAN or 3G only. In an office where there is no time to wait, the master / administrator can be very useful! 4) MISCELLANEOUS: QoS, unlike D-Links, has settings for IP, Port, TCP / UDP, at the same time you can look from which IP how much traffic was pumped. Support for VPN Pass-through, Virtual Server, DMZ and other standard "niches" for a router. The supplied PSU has a USB port that allows you to charge your MP3 player or cell phone. TL-MR3020 does not heat up, which is surprising for such a small box. After the firmware update, a number of modems and 4G YOTA are added, while the HUAWEI E160G (unlocked) and E150 are working. The price is 820 rubles. very democratic for such a device!
Disadvantages:
... 1) DHCP is configured to distribute addresses starting from 192.168.0.100 and sets the gateway (for the Internet) and the web configurator to 192.168.0.254….so until you read the manual, you do not understand why 192.168.0.1 does not respond (-: 2) At the office. the site has an incorrect description of the TL-MR3020 (-: it says that there are QSS and Reset buttons, there are no figurines! QSS is not in sight, and Reset is combined with WPS ... i.e., to start WPS, press once and to reset the settings, press and hold 10- 15 sec. 3) Owners of USB Beeline will have to change APN to “home.beeline.ru”, otherwise they will not get 3G ... for some reason the Chinese on similar products persistently prescribe APN as “internet.beeline.ru” (-: however this is not a disadvantage ...
Comment:
... TL-MR3020 is made with high quality, the box is designed as for jewelry, which allows you to make it as a glamorous gift for a girl who has an iPad (-: jokes aside, but the package looks really attractive! Many complain that the TL-MR3020 does not have a battery for mobility ... Duc such a shortage is eliminated by buying, for example, the iconBIT FTB7000DUO which will last for 15-20 hours of work.Bought for installation in a car together with the DCS-932L camera. The camera is planned to be embedded in a torpedo, turn on the motion sensor on the camera and get a photo of the hijacker in order to tell the police "Here he is, this insidious type of civilian appearance! (Prostokvashino ©)" (-: When the motion sensor is triggered, the photo will go to EMail ... that is, the car will disappear and the photo with the criminal's face will remain (-: I plan to disable it on TL- MR3020 and DCS-932L Wi-Fi for current consumption no more than 800mA pair everything via RG-45, power it through the KA7905 from the board of the 12V mains. If it is boiling, try a more complicated method via LM 2576-5.0BT ... as I implement, I will sign off on the operation of the router on board the car ... Current consumption in different modes --------------- without Wi-Fi ---------- -------- Start I.max = 350 mA. Connect 3G = 310-370 mA. Idle = 190 mA. --------------- with Wi-Fi -------------------- Start I.max = 350 mA. Connect 3G = 420-480 mA. Idle = 230 mA. Measurements were taken while working via LAN. It is possible that “Connect 3G” currents will increase slightly over Wi-Fi. The parameters are explained as follows. Start I.max - maximum current when the router is turned on. Connect 3G - Connect \ data transfer with the Huawei E160G modem. Idle - Router current when the USB modem is “disconnect”, i.e. standby current. Unfortunately, I can not post a photo of the router board (-: since it is not realistic to open the case! It is probably assembled with capital latches ... there is not a single screw from the outside! Everything is cracking, but the lid cannot be removed! Including the description of the filling will not be) - :

Advantages:
Cheap, small, food incl. and from USB
Disadvantages:
Low memory for some things in OpenWRT.
Comment:
I bought it to experiment with OpenWRT with further use as a backup 3g Internet channel. Everything is wonderful, the device pleases, I spent many nights setting up various things. I had to buy a usb hub with a power supply. I managed to: - connect a USB flash drive and transfer the system to it - a file server for Windows machines - samba server - DLNA media server - transmission torrent download - connected a Logitek 210 web camera + broadcasting mjpeg video from it - installed python - no-ip I still want to try a lot. An excellent toy for an IT specialist!

Advantages:
Solid virtues. Price. Lightweight, compact, powered by an external battery 2000 mAh for 5-6 hours, nice design, supports a lot of modems (including Huawei E392 (LTE from MTS), FLYER U12 (any operator)). There is a good TP-LINK forum for the TL-MR3020 with instructions for setting up, flashing and troubleshooting.
Disadvantages:
GLOBAL disadvantage !!! If the network signal changes from 4G to 3G, from 3G to 2G (for example, weather conditions, database congestion), then the router "shuts down", breaks the connection and no longer restores it. The connection can be restored only by rebooting (power off) or by "plugging" the modem. Moreover, this jamb in the new firmware from 08.2012. not eliminated.
Comment:
Great router! Recommend! We are waiting for the firmware (and it will definitely be, since the device is mega-promising), in which the GLOBAL flaw will be corrected. In the meantime, it is "treated" by setting the modem to "only 3G" (or "only 2G", "4G").In addition to this router, I also bought a TL-MR3040, the hardware is the same, respectively, and the firmware, but with a removable battery. The disadvantage, unfortunately, is the same. We are waiting, waiting for the firmware!

Advantages:
Compact, undemanding to power supply (rumored to work from 3.5 v - you can make a backup power supply with a lithium battery), OpenWRT is flashed without question.
Disadvantages:
3G works the hell out of the box. E160G does not connect, only E171, and even then sometimes falls off. The connection time is prohibitive - about a minute. There are no 3G modem settings at all - everything works according to an unknown algorithm.
Comment:
It is treated by installing OpenWRT. The assembly of version AA (12.09) recommended on his website for this model rises without question. After installation, the first thing in the WiFi settings to change the country to Russia, otherwise the default is the United States - the 13th channel is blocked and the power costs 500 mW against the 100 we have allowed. I don't know if the device supports that much, but you never know ... Then you need to bring the device online, registering the routes manually (there is no 3G support in the assembly), update the package database and reinstall: comgt kmod-usb-core kmod-usb-serial kmod-usb-serial-option kmod-usb-uhci usb-modeswitch usb -modeswitch-data luci-proto-3g Then insert the modem, add the interface as 3G WAN, the modem is usually / dev / ttyUSB0, the rest is clear ... Otherwise, you can also configure everything and everything, a bunch of settings in OpenWRT. After that it works like a clock. 3G connects instantly and stably.

Advantages:
Easy to set up, compact, powered by standard USB
Disadvantages:
Forgets the PIN-code of the modem constantly, I had to remove the PIN. The bundled cords are short, both power and mains.
Comment:
Purchased to reduce the costs of affiliates on the Internet. Implemented throughout Kazakhstan, it works excellently, literally saving a million a year :-) You just need to choose the right operator and find a point in the room where the 3G signal is stronger.

Advantages:
Small size and weight, unpretentiousness to power supply, the ability to install third-party firmware, manufacturing quality and equipment.
Disadvantages:
Small memory size, glossy plastic scratches quickly.
Comment:
I took it to make an Internet to the country. Works in combination OpenWrt + VPN + USB HUB + HDD + YOTA. In the future, I plan to add a webcam and a DHT22 temperature / humidity sensor there. Everything has been working for several weeks without any problems.

I needed a router to distribute iota to all available devices in the country. Alas, Russians and white people do not write so much about compatibility with an iota of reviews about various routers - mostly people write about their work with 3G modems. So it took a long time to draw a line between different models, and to take the MR3020 at random in a sense. So if any of the readers are looking for a router for just such a purpose - do not hesitate, it works with an iota modem (I have LU-156). And I have (purchase - October 2014) - out of the box, without any flashing. Why MR3020 and not something else. I wanted it cheap - because my router had to perform exactly one function, and I don't need all its other abilities. Therefore, everything that was more expensive than 1500 fell away automatically. Zukheli, which Iota herself proposes as a paired device, have also disappeared due to, well, a very huge number of negative reviews. Asus-18 (I don't remember the letters) - dropped at the price, tk. huge functionality is not needed. Two Upvel models - I was afraid of no-name. As a result, I ordered TRENDnet TEW-655BR3G and this one, deciding to select by touch. The trendnet was nothing to touch, but I was embarrassed by the complete absence of mention on the box and in the instructions for working with 4G modems. Everything concerned only 3G, and the American one - Verizon, AT&T ...So the MR3020 remained, plus there were a lot of reviews for it written by clearly professional IT specialists (they begin from page 4) that the modem is both configured and stitched, etc. I didn't have to shaman at all: a small white device was pulled out of a very beautiful (a la ai-background) white box (a little shorter than a pack of cigarettes), and after sticking an iota into it, the Internet appeared everywhere in the house without setting at all (well, only I entered the password on the tablet and that's it). Through a foam block wall (from one corner of the house to another, 15 meters in a straight line) and through wooden floors (9 m), the signal strength is 90%. Cool ... Advice for buyers: buy a long USB 2.0 micro-USB cable (!!!). In the package it is 30 cm, and USB 1.0 from a smartphone does NOT work.

Advantages:
Compactness, does not heat up, works stably!
Disadvantages:
Not noticed, the battery would not hurt, even tiny in order to transfer from outlet to outlet in field conditions
Comment:
Bought for vacation to work in conjunction with a megaphone modem. The firmware was immediately updated to the latest from the manufacturer's website. The month before going on vacation was used in the car. The modem is installed on the windshield in the upper right corner, an extension cord is laid in the rack, a router on double-sided tape in the glove compartment. Comrades who write that the modem and router do not work through an extension cord are deeply mistaken - everything works great. Probably it is worth replacing the extension cord, with a one and a half meter for 90 r there were no problems. Now used on vacation, glued on the same double-sided tape on the balcony. The room is on the third floor, the waffle is 30-40 meters in the courtyard of the hotel, well, plus consider the height (3rd floor). There are no problems with the stability of the Internet, it works around the clock! I recommend to everyone, it works great in direct hands!

Advantages:
Small, pleasant build quality, white wires included, cute network cable =) I was pleased with the price, took it for 890 rubles. Good transfer rate. There is such a mode: when the main Internet falls off, the router distributes the Internet from a 3g modem (you can change the priority to 3g primary).
Disadvantages:
Configuring your home wired PPPoE Internet to broadcast through this device is not a trivial task.
Comment:
I'm not a programmer, I'm just fond of it. I help almost all of my friends with setting up network equipment, and have never encountered difficulties in setting up routers and routers of all types. But distributing the Internet from this router turned out to be a non-trivial task. So, to distribute PPPoE Internet you need to: switch the router to 3G mode, click quic setup, select any type of 3g modem, then we get to the menu where we select "wan primary" (or some synonymous wording), after which we get to into normal PPPoE setup menu. I suffered all day until I figured out to do so. Maybe I'm slowing down, but by no other means I could not distribute the home Internet. By the way, the signal of this device easily overcomes one capital (brick! Not reinforced concrete!) Wall. I bought myself this travel device. I think that this device is not so convenient and functional for the home. And on business trips, it is very functional (both a wired Internet will distribute, and a 3g router) and at the same time takes up almost no space.
