Advantages: High signal strength Wi-Fi, the processor can be overclocked to 750 MHz, 128MB of RAM and 128HDD, there is a METAROUTER on which you can raise DD-WRT, and inside it Asterisk and Print server. Huge functionality, high stability, POE support, full gigabit in the network (110MB / s for download and upload since 2008r2), over Wi-fi, the maximum speed that was obtained on a laptop is 92 MBit / s, (the total traffic at that time was 198 MBit / s). From the Internet on L2TP pulls 93 Mbit / s via torrent (provider Beeline \ Corbina), while the sites are not stupid. Wi-Fi covers a very large area, we had to reduce the power so that the neighbors did not break the grid with a brute. There is a possibility of connecting a COM port, there is a platform for an LCD display connector, I suspect that there is a possibility of connecting SD cards via gpio. UPDATE after reconfiguring Wi-Fi, the speed increased to 200 Mbps for downloading and 150 for downloading from a laptop. There are no glitches available, I hope UPDATE2 will not be raised by a PXE server with an RDP client and several images (installing WIN of different versions, LINUX, Acronis, Kaspersky LiveCD), everything plows without any complaints. Several L2TP and IpSec tunnels, work without interruptions, are connected instantly.
Disadvantages: Including delivery will cost buyers an average of 3000r, I got it for 2600 and free shipping (with someone else's order). There are no leads for the antenna outside, there are only 2 pigtail connectors on the board and cutouts in the case under the sticker for installing external antennas. It's a shame that it does not support the 5GHz band and has only 2 antennas, not 3. Note that the write speed on USB media is about 3MB / s and this loads the percent by 100%, there is no point in installing a torrent download for this, as well as raising FTP on it or SMB (except for logs or small files). UPDATE tried to connect an external hard disk drive and the speed via FTP and SMB increased to 8 MB / s (100% loading) is already quite rolling for use as a file washer for several people and PXE.
Comment: I doubted for a long time to take for the beeline, because of their dynamic load balancing on DNS and the resulting scripts and generosity writing. As a result, I wrote everything quickly enough and put it into operation in an hour - it works without glitches and breaks.

Advantages: - SMB level for the price of hamster routers. Is that the performance for this segment is not enough, but in terms of functionality - a full-fledged SMB. - stable work 24/7 - long-range WiFi - flexible settings - command line
Disadvantages: I would like two USB (3.0) ports, 5 GHz WiFi for the future and a web muzzle without minor bugs. But this is nit-picking, especially since I don't use gui at all now. I did not find any serious bugs or shortcomings.
Comment: We were very pleased with the comments of comrades who "did not like" the piece of hardware just because they did not have enough skills to set up. Here you need to understand that the device has its own, I would say a geek niche, and an ordinary user will hardly be able to master and customize it. If there is no desire to learn, read manuals, and the words gateway, mask and command line cause fear - this piece of iron is not for you. Save your nerves and money. For a smooth configuration of knowledge at the CCNA level, it is more than enough, but you still have to read the manuals, because RouterOS is "not that for you", but there is nothing daunting. The YOTA 4G LTE modem (Swift / WLTUBA-107) with DHCP, DNS, NAT lifted in an hour via webfig. Everything has been working like clockwork for 3 months in 24/7 mode. But it is more convenient to finish and configure it through the command line, because there are certain flaws and misunderstandings in webfig, for example, I did not find an analogue of ip pool edit ... The device is very flexible in configuration - with the help of scripts and metarouter it is possible to solve almost any problem. .. Another thing is that it is not always possible to put such solutions into production, but for the house - very much even nothing. The router is able to bring to life the most sophisticated fantasies of network maniacs. :) I recommend buying.

Advantages: Can do everything you want in the future. The price / quality and price / functionality ratio cannot even be compared with traditional "home" devices.
Disadvantages: Starts and works out of the box if you don't need anything extra. For fine-tuning it took 2 days to "smoke the Internet" to do as you want. This is such an "endless space" in a small box :) if you are not a network engineer, like me.
Comment: There is a wonderful article on Habré on setting it up for dummies. So look for "habra mikrotik for dummies". Thanks to the author for the step by step guide.

Advantages: 1) Mega-convenient winbox, divine CLI 2) Adequate wiki documentation 3) Small size, neutral design 4) Metarouter. I tried it for the test, it works. 5) Draws almost 100mbit / s through the l2tp beeline. 6) Ability to write scripts, respond to events, send email and sms (haven't tried it yet) 7) Ability to use dhcp options 8) Price
Disadvantages: During the operation did not reveal.
Comment: It is impossible to write down disadvantages at such a price, but I was surprised by the set consisting of a power supply unit and the router itself. Wonderful config from the box. wlan and ether2-master-local are crammed into the bridge, which is quite logical, but the local address is nailed to wlan. For about 20 minutes I figured out why my wired connection drops if I turn off the wlan interface))) Who this device is not suitable for: 1) For ordinary users, without the desire to understand. (Especially if the beeline provider and others like him with russian l2tp (or how they it is called there)) 2) If you require strange functionality from the router (torrent download, etc.) 3) Those who hope that the master will set it up for you for a small amount. Many field technicians master only 10-20 models of soho routers ala dir-300, rt-n16, keenectik, etc. Who is this device suitable for 1) Those who can read and understand what they have read. There is documentation, everything is written in it. 2) In a small office in which it is inexpedient to buy a tsiska. 3) Those who lack the functionality of standard soho soap dishes. 4) Those who need a router for failover connection through 2 or more providers. 5) For those who need a router, and not the indecency that is sold at comparable prices.

Advantages: It feels like it can do EVERYTHING High power Wi-Fi transmitter Stability
Disadvantages: It is very difficult for a person who has experience working with networks at the level of installing conventional routers using Wizard or Quick Setup. Someone will be frightened by the English language of the interface and the log-log
Comment: I bought a 4G modem Megafon M150-1. The old Zyxel Keenetic lived with him, but it was unstable, fought for 10 days with the support, altered, reconfigured - it did not help. I bought TP Link 3420. It tuned in immediately, but rebooted after running the test on Speedtest.net, the support did not help, although it responded quickly. Tired, I went to the edge of the city, bought a microtic, inserted a modem (before that I switched it to 4G Modem only) - it was determined, registered a Beeline APN (the modem is unlocked and the SIM is Beeline) - it connected. And then the dancing began. I had a Linux-networking background as a student. But I could not configure the distribution of the Internet through the raised modem interface. Googled, just in case, I changed it with the latest firmware. It turned out to be simple. You need to go to the IP-Firewall-NAT settings and set up masquerading through the modem interface. ALL. It works stably, the uptimes are large, the speed does not cut (TP Link cut it before hanging). I further configured the NTP Client so that the time was correct (yes, by default, nothing is configured in this router), Watchdog Timer (periodically pings the Google server 8.8.8.8 and overloads the router, if the pings do not pass - you do not have to go to reboot by hand, if all the same will turn off), fine-tuned WiFi for my conditions, reduced the transmitter power from 1 watt to 0.1 (decibels from 27 to 17). Very satisfied. I am sure that I will now forget about the configuration and instability of the 3G-4G router until the moment when I want to wind up something new for my home network. Well, I will also need to configure my ZTE MF823 backup Beeline modem. Judging by the info on the network, everything is configured. By the way, shouldn't I connect two modems through the hub so that there are two channels - the main and the backup. I am sure that Mikrotik will cope with this!

Advantages: Everything you want works
Disadvantages: they are not
Comment: Configured right after purchase: PPPoE for 3 minutes, after 7 minutes WiFi with guest access and shaper on it worked, after 20 minutes iptv was working on any (!) Devices in my apartment. At the moment, the problem of broadcasting the dlna server (PlexMediaServer) from PC to PS3 remains unresolved. I watch films on Sonya, but these are already separate Wishlist and showdowns with multicast) PS I will recommend the devices to everyone of this brand only. dinky, tplinki, zuheli and everything else for me now buckets of bolts

Advantages: A very fast processor (also with overclocking capability) for a router at this price point. Support for all kinds of network technologies, very powerful QoS. Five fully independent Gigabit ports plus many VPN tunnels. Anti-glam brick design. The minimum setting (to "just work") is easily done through the Quick Set in the WEB-interface. Everything you need is concentrated on one page, this router has no equal. When used at home (authorization by static IP), it quietly passes through itself 97 MBit / s torrents with uTP with a processor load of 30 ... 35%, stable VPN and a bunch of firewall rules (the old DIR-615 with DD-WRT was enough for a maximum 75-80 with a braking WEB interface and periodically falling off VPN tunnels). If you wish, you can raise a full-fledged hotspot with WEB-authorization, RADIUS, etc.
Disadvantages: From what at one time really caused difficulties: OpenVPN support in current firmware versions is somewhat limited. Niggles: untrustworthy power supply (easily swap out to any trustworthy power supply with the correct connector, polarity and output voltage); only white.
Comment: He's not brewing coffee or downloading torrents yet. But these tasks, respectively, should be dealt with by a coffee maker and a NAS, routers of this class are designed for something completely different.

Advantages: Before buying, I thought that I would drown in the settings and stuff a lot of bumps before I could configure everything as I want. This is where I was wrong. I was very wrong. After a short search, I found a manual where everything is spelled out. Everything turned out to be clear, convenient, accessible. I configured it via winbox on mac os, so as not to lose the connection to the router in case of incorrect settings, there will always be access by the MAC address of the router, and the router is searched for on the network itself, which I really liked. The router itself is just a minimalist's dream, for those who have played enough plastic glitter with screaming inscriptions and stickers on the case, this design of the device is very close to me. I will say a little about the operation of the device itself. Prior to that, the first revision kinetic router (firmware V1, towards ndms v2 - tomato) was the ideal of stability and an honorable collector of dust (due to uninterrupted operation 24/7). By connection speed Mikrotik has overtaken the veteran of Internet distribution. It is understandable, iron is faster. And together with RouterOS, it's just perfect. I easily configured the necessary services, forwarded ports, and did not forget about the firewall. The entire home menagerie from NAS to tablets, downloads gigabytes and rejoices. Probably)) I liked the presence of the sound of turning on and off the device, as in the pieces of hardware in more expensive market segments (the signal is short and pleasant). And of course scalability, if you need to screw something in the future. The processor overclocks to 750mhz (I haven't tried it yet, it's enough). Wai-wai can be configured as you want, moreover, with the help of a router, I found an unoccupied signal band and started broadcasting on it without interfering with other inhabitants of the house, and they told me.
Disadvantages: Unpublished brand (read - do not buy near the house). It's also a plus. There are no advertising costs and so on - goods without price markups. A novice user who is not familiar with networking issues may experience inconvenience. Which is more than compensated by the developed community on the Internet, and the Quick Set tab in the settings, if necessary, if you need a simple setup. No twisted pair wiring included (you have it, right?)
Comment: I discovered for myself that the device can be inexpensive and so high quality. I'm starting to think about senior Mikrotik. Thanks for reading.

Advantages: Router took the cheapest one for 1700.
Disadvantages: More ports for the home; Does not hang on the wall - I had to make a shelf for fastening.
Comment: At home 4 computers + beech + box + telephones-tablets. Set up a dynamic queue - now no one can hang up the Internet with a torrent or steam and the box does not go crazy in YouTube. For the kinders, I caught the poppy addresses, made a binding to the IP (the address if the son changes, then the Internet will not exist), started a simple queue for everyone, wrote scripts in the scheduler that change the speeds and status of these queues. Now the kinders have the Internet on a schedule (a couple of hours without restrictions, a couple of hours 256 K (writing abstracts), at night 28K - do what you want. Waifu plows perfectly (he finishes off from the pantry everywhere), he does not lose contact with Rostelecom - he clung tightly (unlike from long and zuhel). Poor ports are few, I had to add a hub. Does not heat up !!! (unlike, again, long and zuhel). Firewall set up - no attacks !!! Television - like two fingers on the asphalt, only from Rostelecom to squeeze out the VLAN number.Configured in March - plows without problems, is not afraid of power failures.

Advantages: Not a router, but a fairy tale. He set up with one hand, wiped away tears of happiness with the other. Turn on a computer over a network. (WoL), Gigabit ports. Wifi power
Disadvantages: Has not revealed yet
Comment: I took the Asus WL-520GU as a replacement. In comparison, heaven and earth. Asus cut off the speed (at the declared 100 Mbit / s, gave max. 20 Mbit), always hung up every half day (even with Tomato firmware and from Oleg). Reading the comments of previous users, I was afraid to take, I thought that I would not be in the mood. It turned out that there were a million manuals (instructions). I set it up in half an hour. Now that you have forgotten your files at home, you can simply turn on the computer through a router from your phone or other device. The antenna, although internal, is very powerful. I live on the 5th floor, I sit in the internet in the yard :) I took it for 2800, believe me it is worth the money. Once I bought it and forgot about gemmorrhoids with routers.
