Pavel L.
Advantages: 1. Screen. Actually, that is why this reader is paid attention in the first place. Very good - it may not compare with an expensive paper edition, but for a gadget it makes an excellent impression. 300 ppi do their job - the crop cannot be seen even with a strong desire. The screen size is just perfect - almost like a paper page. The backlight shines more or less evenly - it does not strike the eye, although if you look closely in poor lighting, you can probably find fault. I didn't appreciate the backlight temperature as a top feature - even before going to bed I prefer blue. There are also different degrees of orange and some strange border combination of orange and blue. Previously I used ONYX Robinson Crusoe I, there is an excellent white backlight color. That would be like this :) The sensor is good, it works quickly (in the book; in the menus it is slower in comparison with the same RC I). 2. General ergonomics. Lightweight (even with an oak case for 700r. From China), because of the small frames it is convenient to read in one hand. 3. Combination of WIFI and Dropbox. Just a killer feature! I bought / downloaded books on my phone, threw them into Dropbox, synchronized on the book and all the books are already on the reader. No wires! The browser tried for the sake of interest and forgot (laughed out loud from people complaining that Internet surfing is not comfortable on the reader. At the moment, e-ink technologies do not imply such comfort, unfortunately). PB Cloud and my own store have not tried - I read that after registration, the manufacturer begins to sell non-disconnectable ads. 4. Autonomy. The discharge cycle from the box took about two months (alternating reading with paper books). The net reading time, it seems, was exactly the month declared by the manufacturer. 5. VERY fast turns on. In the menu, you can configure so that the last opened book is displayed at startup. Thus, after one second, you can already read, although the device has not turned on yet. I checked on RC I - because of the android, you get into the book after about one minute. Quite weighty if you read exclusively in transport.
Disadvantages: 1. Price. At the time of purchase, the book cost 15 thousand, but the equipment and materials are sharply discordant with this amount. MicroSD for 4 gig even at retail costs 200 rubles. At least the connector could be hammered against the dust. The body material is deshman deshman. Yes, the plastic is light, but it feels so thin that it won't survive a fall. Even some of the cheaper models have a cover. Two weeks had to wait for the Chinese cover, just to take the book out of the house, because it's scary. By the way, the same cover is sold on the off site, judging by all the notches in the case. The difference is 1) Pocketbook inscription on the front side 2) 1100 rubles. No headphone jack. The 6-inch flagship has 631+, but not here. Not to mention Bluetooth. 2.BY. It would be funny if it weren't so sad. The software is raw, full of all sorts of stupid jambs. My acquaintance with them began when I realized that the keyboard does not have one of the special characters when entering a password in DBox. There is no way to switch to special characters. I had to change the password for DBox. Time is getting lost, you need to update via wi-fi almost daily. The standard reader is a complete shnyaga. There are a minimum of settings: three types of fields and three types of line spacing. The status bar is huge, two fingers, not configurable, it only displays the time. You can turn it off, anyway the time is always wrong :) At the bottom there is only general progress, such as 300/600: no chapter marks, no chapter progress, no percentages. The use of screen areas is completely inadequate. Example: you poke in the lower right corner and the book flips back. I still don't understand what area is responsible for. Maybe I missed something else, tk. almost immediately installed Cool Reader from w3bsit3-dns.com. It is not without its drawbacks - for example, it is impossible to select text, dictionaries do not work (as I understand it, this can be fixed, but I don’t need it), now the standard reader does not start (well, let’s say) - but it is much more customizable, you can customize almost everything missing in a standard reader.
Comment: It did not fit into the disadvantages. Further, the standard tool could not open a PDF of 50MB, no matter how hard it was. I downloaded Koreader from the same w3bsit3-dns.com. It's pretty ugly and unwieldy, but PDF opens up great. The physical keys are complete nonsense, it is not clear why they were made if they are not able to fully replace the sensor. Flipping works only where it fits logically - right and left. They do not replace up or down. They cannot switch focus from one control to another. It would be better if they were removed altogether in favor of either a smaller size or a headphone jack. ___ Total. I wanted to put "3" on the reader because of the flashing firmware, but I put a shaky "4", tk. still, the impression was mostly positive. Over time, the wow-effect from the purchase passed, but I was able to get used to all the disadvantages, and since the book is included mainly for reading fb2 and it copes with this task perfectly, then the minuses for the most part do not bother me. It is a pity that the choice in the segment of large readers for adequate money is not very large. Chronos and Aura One didn't seem so good enough to pay extra for them. Cleopatra 3 on android, with all that it implies, and its screen is smaller. Kindle seemed pointless. After reading the comments of Amazon adherents on the market, I still do not understand why it is better than Pocketbook and why it is worth its money. PB 740 is a good reader, I would rather recommend it than not.

Advantages: The screen resolution is space, 1872x1404 ... This is very large even for a nearly eight-inch screen. No pixels are visible, the text is perceived as handwritten, not as made of dots. The speed of the book has grown significantly compared to my last one, it is probably impossible to compare them, the 840 was still a slow book, especially when opening pdf, with the 740 everything is much faster. Wireless services were added, if before there was only a dropbox, now pocketbooks have muddied their ecosystem, which they called cloud. It is more convenient in that it automatically syncs with your PC / phone. And you can read simultaneously on three devices in theory (I practically do not use a computer, so on two, I checked the synchronization with the phone, it works). The reader is light, hands don't get tired of it, no matter how I hold it (vertically / horizontally).
Comment: There was already a pocketbook reader (840, stolen from a backpack on the train), compared to it, the interface design was redesigned (made even more lighter), a cloud service was added, the approach to book design was redesigned and the speed of work was greatly increased. I love.

Advantages: Size, design, autonomy.
Disadvantages: Control. *** Comments: 1. About the backlight. Ay, warm. Ay, orange. Ay, for falling asleep and eyes. This is bullshit. Inconvenient. I did not like. The body rebelled against this. I set up neutral white with comfortable brightness - it's better this way. 2. Management is very confusing, intuitively obscure. Even after reading the manual. But you can figure it out. By default, the font in the menu is chopped, similar to Arial. Serif pages, similar to Times. You can drop your fonts from your computer and use them. Ttf understands. 3. Line spacing one and a half, unregulated.
Comment: 4. The set and functionality of applications are scarce, but for me it is not important, I took a book for reading from local storage. 5. With a computer, the connection is in, both the memory card and the internal one are visible. You can easily throw books into folders. And it is better to do this by means of a computer, tk. the reader is simply not available. Shows - already good. 6. About covers. Here some complained about the lack of covers for the PB740, incl. complete. Excuse me, what device do the covers come with? With no one. This is a separate business. It was not difficult for me to buy a cover on the day of buying a reader. There are at least three types available with a range of prices from 1000r to 2000r. *** For those who are planning to buy the first e-reader. Do not believe about performance, super speed and so on. If you are used to the responsiveness of a tablet / smartphone, then working with the reader will be torture for you. Slowness in everything. When working with the menu, it is not even just leisurely, but fierce inhibition. Imagine switching to 2G while surfing the Internet at 4G speeds. Here is such a speed of work not with the Internet, but in the local menu. Pages flips, of course, faster. When planning to buy a reader, you need to understand one thing: it is not for the Internet. She is for reading books. And in this matter, speed is not the most important thing. The main thing is readability and everything related to reading. And with this all the rules. *** For those who already had a reader. Of course, there is a performance gain. Now it is quite comfortable to use, against the background of comparison with the previous 5-year-old readers in 6 "format. You can flexibly adapt to your needs. I liked it, I recommend it. The only negative, in my opinion, is working with pdf. If other formats of books are scaled pages in the usual sense, then in pdf this is a problem. In addition to the fierce brakes, they do not scale yet, but simply increase the pages without fitting into the screen. And as you wish. You want small text, but the whole page, you want - large text, but a piece of the page, like under a magnifying glass and crawl along the page from line to line.

Advantages: Large screen with small dimensions, relatively inexpensive, excellent autonomy, built-in book store, dropbox synchronization + own cloud package, 3-year warranty (I took it from a company store).
Disadvantages: At the time of purchase, there was no branded cover on sale.
Comment: I have been using PocketBook with the Touch HD model, that is, for about two years. I switched to 740 because of the screen and performance. It is still tolerable with books, but reading PDF magazines on 6-inch readers is not ice. Firstly, the display itself is small, and secondly, everything that I tried, somehow lacked performance to quickly move around the page. So. 1. In terms of dimensions, this is certainly not a 6-inch device, but very close. Finally, at least Pocketbook thought of removing thick frames from all sides. 2. By speed. Very fast. Not in terms of books (flipping and scrolling, where there are super speeds) - it is in web surfing (yes) and wandering through pdf pages of magazines. Excellent screen refresh rate. Not a smartphone, of course, but already nearby. Conditional peekaboo is quite comfortable to read. 3. Price. No, not expensive. Of the alternatives - Tesla Logic for about the same money. But there is complete darkness with a battery and a totally crooked firmware. Everything else is 8 inches - either Kindles-kobas for 20-30 thousand, or the very same 840 pocket for 18k rubles. 4. Firmware as such. A ton of options for any question, as the pocketbook always had.Plus every type of calculator, games, notes, etc. Supports almost 20 formats, but the main thing for me is fb2 and pdf. I buy books from the bookland, if necessary. Everything that I open along with the last reading page is synchronized to the smartphone via PocketBook Cloud. occasionally I read it from my phone. 5. Backlight. Until it came in handy, I saw that you can change the color temperature so that there is no cold white light - it is believed that with warm shades the eyes are more comfortable. I have not personally tested it yet. 6. Autonomy. I have a reader for 3 days, it took 6 percent of the charge (I read one book). It provided an average of hours of reading per day, with occasional Wi-Fi. If you “just” read it, a month and a half should definitely be enough. 7. Clear, no pixelation, light backing. No questions asked.

Advantages: 1. Screen. The undoubted plus of this book: resolution, clarity (by the way, I read such reviews a la - the screen of the pocket is whiter than that of .... I will say this - in comparison with Onyx - there is no difference in whiteness, there was no opportunity to compare it with the amazon kindle. 2. Charge. Yes, yes, these myths about non-discharging pocketbooks are true, very long operating time. Again, comparing with onyx - the charge could go up to 10-20% just overnight. Here, nothing goes away during the night 3. Backlight It is wonderful - I compare it with the cold illumination of the previous reading room, even in poor lighting I didn’t want to read with it, my eyes were uncomfortable. Here I turn it on both at night and during the day when there is insufficient lighting. Very often I do not even see if it is there or no - which is a definite plus, because it can be configured completely "imitating the page" in normal lighting 4. Speed of work Well, I think whoever wants to - will find a video on the Internet and see (what I did before buying) - how fast are pdf files I even found various comparisons , where there are many / few pictures, a lot / little file weight. On my own I will add again: everything actually was confirmed. it even seemed to me that it opens faster (but this is subjective, my file was larger in weight than in the video, there were enough pictures, but I don't know how many or not). 5. Buttons. Yes Yes. for me this is a plus, tk. some are beginning to make books without keys, or with touch keys. Therefore, thanks to the package for providing the user with a choice - to scroll with buttons or a sensor - here the taste and color. 6. Ability to download books - now it's convenient - I throw in an e-mail and don't bother with wires. But here again I will clarify why I cannot download a book from sites, etc. The same problem was with the previous reader. M. b. I’m doing something wrong, but if it’s me, the email solution fixed that problem and made file transfer easier.
Disadvantages: Unfortunately, there were some drawbacks. 1. It is very annoying that the interface in the book reading application itself is not entirely functional: it does not display how many pages are left until the end of the chapter, I also don’t like footnotes: you need to click on the footnote and go to the end of the book. yes, there is a quick return, but somehow I accidentally leafed through a couple of times, and the return disappeared .... I had to look for where I came from. Unfortunately, in my last onyx, this problem did not arise, tk. the footnotes were at the bottom - yes, even in the same "War and Peace", several phrases in the speech of one character can be different footnotes - it is wildly inconvenient to jump from one page to another, but it would be at the bottom, it would be easier. Well, when you’re going to sleep, and you don’t know how much until the end of the chapter (no, you can go to the menu, find out, but agree, this is also inconvenient) ... and here again, if I didn’t like it at the onyx, I would I looked in the playmarket for book reading applications, with the interface that is convenient for me. I do not know if it is possible to install a third-party application here, but it will obviously be more difficult. 2. The body is a little confusing. yes, they narrowed the sides, but personally to me it seems more fragile because of this. Let's see what happens, of course. But on the one hand, the case is kind of flimsy (the front panel is loose on the side). 3. In addition to the body, it was a shame that the book does not have moisture protection. Of course, for someone this is an extra show-off, but still, for that kind of money, I would like a "protected" book in all angles 4. It is not entirely clear how the sensor controls the page when reading. If onyx it could be customized. I didn't find it here. accidentally, by some movements, the backlight changes, etc. and it doesn't turn off. 5. Well, there was a problem with the cover. There is little variety so far for this book of covers, I personally found the ones presented on the official website inconvenient. But this is a matter of time, I think it will change soon.
Comment: In general, summing up it is difficult to give a definite answer whether I am categorically for this book or not. When buying, I chose between onyx - the latest models, amazon kindle or pocketbook. And now, after a month from the purchase, I do not quite understand if I made the right decision. My last book onyx broke because of light pressure on the screen (yes, it really was light, no falls, etc., just touched with my palm, not so easy, but not so hard). That is actually why I am afraid of the fragility of this book, in appearance, it is more fragile than my previous one, and the manufacturer did not try to protect it, neither from water, nor from impacts. Actually, I was afraid to take a kindle about the same, I read that if it breaks down, then there will be problems with repairs in Russia (spare parts, service, etc.). And based on the experience of the previous book - they are not eternal - I decided not to risk it. In the choice of onyx / pocket - of course, the pocket wins with a long battery charge, speed. But it loses by the interface. In general, after reading about the latest onyx models that their shockproof and moisture protection are not quite as good as the manufacturer claims, I leaned in favor of the pocket - in the hope that one day the manufacturers of the pocket will work on the interface. I also hope that performance will be complemented by good protection in future models.

Advantages: Screen, speed of work, opens all books, wi-fi.
Disadvantages: The memory card slot has no cover. I don’t know if this is a drawback or I’m finding fault - but a fact. I immediately inserted an old microSD for two gigs there - just so that the dust would not get clogged. Dust and dirt in gadgets annoy me.
Comment: The main thing for an e-book is the screen. In fact, my acquaintance with it started like this: there were about five to seven readers on the shelf in the store, and the 740th pocket immediately caught my eye against the background of the others. Simply because it actually has a much larger screen. As it turned out a little later, the diagonal is 7.8 inches. And other readers have 6. It would seem that the difference is small, but this is in theory. In practice, the growth is really huge. At the same time, the dimensions of the 740 are not much larger than 6-inch models. So, continuing about the screen. He's really healthy and very high quality. Compared to other books in the store - and I asked to include almost everything - the 740 stood out not only for its screen size, but also for its quality. Light background, almost white, while others have gray. The 740's letters are clear, without jagging. In general, I fell in love with the screen once, and actually studied everything else after the purchase. Other advantages include the following. First, there are no brakes. In general, I've heard that books can be compared to some old iPhone 4 in terms of speed. But I can't call the 740 slower. It's about the same as my iPhone 6s. Applications open at the same speed, and files open quickly, even "heavy" ones of 100 megabytes. Another advantage is that it opens all the books. As I saw that many readers today do not even open FB2 and DJVU, my eyes turned into saucers. In general, I love some old press - for example, the files "Behind the Wheel" from the middle of the last century - to read and examine. And they only exist in DJVU and PDF ... Well, there are different amenities for little things. The 740 has both buttons and a touch screen - two control methods. For me personally, buttons are closer (I'm such a retrograde, yeah), but they are not everywhere. There is Wi-Fi in the 740th.You can distill literature via Dropbox via Wi-Fi. I also note the backlight with color adjustment. Usually in readers it is white, but here it can be anything. I made it yellow - and the screen became even more reminiscent of old paper books.

Advantages: screen, screen, SCREEN! Just awesome. Large, contrasty, with normal white and instantly refreshing the page. The speed of work has grown sooo much. I compare with the old PB614 and this is heaven and earth. I still haven't charged the battery (since 29.01). Colored lighting seems to be called "adaptive". It is convenient to upload books (I mainly use dropbox). In the hands is just perfect.
Disadvantages: no one
Comment: I bought the book in Orenburg on 29.01. If it continues to behave like this, I’ll probably say that this is the best investment of money in my entire life.

Advantages: 1. Size. Trust me, the difference between 6 and 7.8 inches is significant. 2. Image quality. 3. Wi-Fi. 4. Backlight. You can adjust not only the brightness, but the color. If I can't sleep in the evening, I turn on a low brightness with a red tint and after 5-10 minutes I cut off for such a reading. 5. Speed of work with pdf-files. 6. The presence of magnetic covers for Ali for an adequate price tag. I closed the cover - the book went to sleep. I opened the cover - the book woke up. Conveniently. 7. Browser (!) 8. Synchronization with Dropbox - I threw the book through the browser to my dropbox folder and now it is already in the reader. No wires. The beauty! 9. Touchscreen - it became easy to leave notes on books. Or view footnotes. Or follow the links in the browser. Awesome.
Disadvantages: 1. Body material - dust easily and naturally sticks to it, which is difficult to clean. It seems to be called a soft-touch. 2. They say that the price, but as for me - the cost for such a full minced meat is quite adequate.
Comment: Initially I took it in another store for 16.t.r., but the next day at work they presented a certificate for 10t.r. As a result, I came to the store and returned the money back. And then I activated the certificate and bought it for 1/3 of the cost.

Advantages: Screen. It is much better than, for example, the much more expensive Amazon Oasis. And more. And since the screen is the main part of the e-book, it is safe to say that the 740 is the best e-book at the moment. The speed of the 740 is at least not inferior to Oasis (before buying, I put both books face to face and compared, so I know what I'm talking about). Support for all possible book formats is Poket's main feature. You don't need to think about conversion at all. The battery holds well for a very long time. In principle, I did not charge it on purpose, only when I downloaded the books. In the dark, reading is just as comfortable because of the cool backlighting.
Disadvantages: The price is high. But as I said, this is the best e-book on the market. And there are also more expensive models, the same oasis.
Comment: Exactly a month since I bought the package. All OK.

Advantages: One of the best (if not the best) screens in e-books. 90 percent of my choice was limited to this parameter, I went through a lot of options and settled on this. Everything came together here: the resolution is high, the substrate is white, and the contrast is excellent. And the refresh rate. Well, the diagonal, of course. I was not very comfortable reading at 6 inches. I have a six-inch smartphone, it makes sense to buy another such gadget. I charged the battery once for 2 months. I'll be second soon. On average, one charge is enough for a month. It's super cool. There is a sane English-Russian dictionary with sane tooltips. Those who, like me, are also trying to master English by reading foreign literature in the original will be very useful. The built-in memory is 8 gigs and it is as if the computer had 2 TB of memory. You can download an infinite number of books. There are Wi-Fi and online synchronization services with the storage, that is, you can do without connecting the reader to a PC. At all. I found a book on my computer, saved it, sent it to a dropbox or cloud - done. You don't need to do any unnecessary gestures. Excellent ergonomics. The buttons are small but comfortable. The frames are thin, but just enough so that you can hold the reader with one hand and not strain, while the reader itself is not very different in size from those six-inch ones that I turned in the store. Backlighting is a separate story. Setting the color temperature is a mega-megamega good for the eyes. In the evening, I put the slider as far as possible on the left point so that the color is white, it is the most convenient for me, and before going to bed I move it to the right so as not to irritate my eyes and fall asleep normally.
Disadvantages: From what comes to mind so far, this is perhaps the lack of auto-rotate the screen. The rest of the reader is perfect.
Comment: I tried to describe the pros as much as possible. There are no downsides as such. This is the perfect gadget for me.
